We learn more about FSAs every year. We know that they’re not a measure of how great a school is and that the rankings are deceitful. Such a narrow and shallow and superficial range of data can never measure the complexity that is a good school. But also, we know that FSAs tend to drive school systems towards standardization, they are a standardized test, and towards conformity. A teacher administrating FSAs would have to ensure that prior to that test, their students had learned the exact same curriculum as every other student in BC at the very same pace, and we know that every child is different, every child’s learning needs are different, every child’s learning pace is different. The FSAs’ drive towards conformity and standardization is in fact in direct contradiction to the goals of the BC education plan and yet government is persisting, this year, to enforce the FSAs. You have an opportunity to opt out. You can sign a parental declaration to opt out of the FSAs and allow your child the freedom to learn what they need to learn when they need to learn it. Please join us, write to your MLA, write to the Premier. This year, let’s see the money that is wasted on the FSA program spent more wisely for students who deserve it. Thank you.
