The province’s 38,000 teachers will cast ballots by 8 p.m. Friday, September 8th on the tentative settlement reached in late June.  The BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) is recommending its members accept the package, which provides financial improvements of 16 per cent over the life of the agreement.

“We did not get everything we wanted,” says BCTF President Jinny Sims, “but we made huge strides in assuring teachers are paid fairly, and treated with respect.  There are other ways to effect change than at the negotiating table, and we will continue to press the provincial government for adequate funding and resources so that teachers can focus on teaching our children.”

Teachers will vote locally, and results will then be tabulated and released provincially through the BCTF.   Results will be made available through the BCTF web site, bctf.ca.

The tentative settlement that was reached June 30 followed lengthy and complex negotiations.
