NEW TEACHERS’ CONFERENCE REFLECTIONS
EEPSA was once again a proud partner in the BCTF New and Student Teachers’ Conference earlier this year. For the sixth year running, our executive team spent the weekend delivering workshop sessions and highlighting our association in the display hall. It was a great success for all involved as we turned on beginning teachers to the incredible potential of environmental education in their learning communities. Many thanks to exec members, Diane and Nichole, for wo-manning the EEPSA display on day one of the conference. Our table created considerable interest, with our engaging display and cornucopia of resources to browse. There was quite a run on our Green Teacher learning resources, as new teachers clearly know quality resources when they see them and pounced!
Meanwhile, Genny and Patrick hosted two well-attended workshops in one of the large session rooms. Participants enjoyed a number of activities introducing them to the principles and practice of EE in and out of the classroom. Time spent out on the postage stamp of a lawn in front of the hotel was a real highlight, as session goers discovered what possibilities can be realized in even a small slice of ‘wild’ if you open your mind to the possibilities.
Many thanks to the conference organizers for coordinating an excellent event, and kudos to the EEPSA team for their efforts in reaching out to new teachers and building the bridges to effective EE practice both today and tomorrow. |
