Springing into Environmental Education

April 4, 2006

Vancouver, BC

ImageOur evening began with a roomful of curious and eager educators sipping chai.  All of us woven together by one common thread - a love for environmental education.  Games were played and discussions revolving around the ECC (Environmental Concepts in the Classroom) floated around the room. As tasty East Indian fare was devoured, links were being made to these concepts and how various activities fit into these concepts.  The most exciting part of the evening was our sharing session where participants were asked to share their tried and true tests of activities with others.  Eager ears were leaning to gain insight to what others are doing in their own classrooms. The evening closed with a positive feeling that we had accomplished something.  That we had come together for a purpose.  There was an energy that existed in the room that wasn’t present before.

The evening was fruitful, eventful and full of delicious discussion as well as delectable food. Whatever the reason each individual had come to this event, each would leave having her/his goal satiated in one way or another.  Whether it be to share their ideas, to educate themselves on the ECC (Environmental Concepts in the Classroom), to inspire one another, to keep each other interested and up-to-date with issues relating to environmental education or simply to connect with other environmental educators.  We attained what we had come for and then we prepared to go home............... some of us taking down contact numbers of people who they have just met before leaving.  Everyone, silently awaiting for the next gathering to come around in the fall.
