- RULES FOR FEMALE TEACHERS -
(CIRCA 1915)
1. You will not keep company with married men.
2. You will not marry during the term of contract.
3. You must be home between the hours of 8 pm and 6 am.
4. You must not loiter downtown in any of the ice cream stores.
5. You may not travel beyond the city limits unless you have the permission of the chairman of the board.
6. You may not ride in a carriage or automobile with any man unless it be your father or your brother.
7. You may not smoke cigarettes.
8. You may not dress in bright colors, and you may not under any circumstances dye your hair.
9. You must wear at least two petticoats, and your dresses may not be shorter than 2 inches above your ankles.
10. You must keep the school neat and clean, sweep the floor at least once daily, and scrub the floor at least once a week with hot, soapy water.
11. You must clean the blackboards once a day, and start the fire at 7 am so the room will be warm at 8 am.

- RULES FOR 21st CENTURY TEACHERS -
(CIRCA 2015)
1. You will not keep company with anyone who may be a negative influence on children or is listed on the Ministry and/or Board of Education’s “Potential Negative Influence on Children Lists”.
2. You will not exhibit any signs of affection in public that may be construed as “sexual” by anyone.
3. You will maintain “reasonable hours” in your private life to avoid any perception by anyone, that you may be involved in some illicit nocturnal activity.
4. You must not frequent casinos, strip clubs, sex shops, “X”-rated movies, stores selling drug paraphernalia, and/or any other establishments that may be perceived as illicit, by anyone.
5. You may not travel to any jurisdiction that does not adhere to the rules for teachers contained herein without application to and the written approval of the Board of Education.
6. You may not ride in any conveyance accompanied by any children, without Board of Education approval, to avoid perceptions of you as having a potential inappropriate interest in children.
7. You may not smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol in public or in front of any child at any time.
8. You may not wear suggestive clothing, or any other clothing that the Board of Education deems inappropriate, in public, or in front of any child.
9. You may not expose any part of your body that the Board of Education deems inappropriate.
10. You must maintain a weight no more or less than 10% of the “Weight Standards for Exemplary 21st Century Teachers” set by the Ministry of Education, to ensure that you are modelling appropriate weight for children.
11. You must model sanitary behaviour and excellent dental and other personal hygiene at all times and maintain a hairstyle that is on the Ministry of Education’s approved “Hairstyles for Exemplary 21st Century Teachers” list.
12. You must ensure that your students’ “safety and well-being” always comes first and always before your personal “safety and well-being”.
13. You may not possess any books or digital media other than those that appear on the Ministry of Education’s list of “Approved Books and Digital Media for Exemplary 21st Century Teachers” or have any contact with students on any social networking site.
14. You must not utter any form of profanity or use any other vocabulary deemed inappropriate by the Board and/or the Ministry of Education, in front of anyone.
15. You will begin every class by audibly reciting “Children are First” three times in front of your students.
Violation of any of the above rules will result in discipline, up to and including summary dismissal.
