Dear Social Studies Educators,
I would like to let you know about special discounts on two teaching resources that may be of interest to you and your students:
- Teaching about Historical Thinking
- Active Citizenship: Student Action Projects
Teaching about Historical Thinking
Our newest resource, Teaching about Historical Thinking, is the first in a series called Tools for Historical Understanding. The conceptual framework for this resource stems from the work of Peter Seixas, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Education at the University of British Columbia and Director of the Centre for the Study of Historical Consciousness.
The resource discusses six interrelated elements of historical thinking, offers suggestions for introducing these elements to students and includes reproducible blackline masters for in-class activities. By introducing the tools to think deeply and critically about history, this book helps teachers, student teachers and high school students develop a more significant understanding of the past.
For further details about this resource and how to order it, see the brochure attached to this message. Please note that there is a 30% discount when ordering class sets of this resource, reducing the price to $13.95.
Active Citizenship: Student Action Projects
Due to a minor printing error on the cover, copies of the book Active Citizenship: Student Action Projects are being offered at $13.95, half the regular price. Part of the Critical Challenges Across the Curriculum series, the books are in pristine condition apart from misplaced spaces on the cover graphic.
This resource discusses how to pre-plan and promote student interest in a social action project and then teaches students to think critically about four main tasks:
- Clarifying the problem.
- Agreeing on a solution.
- Planning a course of action.
- Implementing and evaluating the action.
The resource is intended for grades 4-10 and provides detailed activities and support materials for teaching and assessing each of these tasks. Also contained are four case studies of actual projects.
To order the above resources, please click here to download an order form, then complete a TC2 order form and indicate that you would like the discounted copies.
