The BCTF has applied for a LRB mediator in an attempt to resolve the current bargaining situation.
The BCTF had three meetings with Trevor Hughes, the government staff fact-finder, who will report on February 23 to the labour minister.
The fact-finder’s only task is to answer: “Can the parties come to a voluntary settlement?” We are worried the report could provide the government with an excuse to legislate and impose a contract.

Teachers remain committed to doing everything possible to reach a negotiated settlement despite the nearly 80 fruitless bargaining sessions so far. BCPSEA and government, on the other hand, refuse to waiver from their net-zero position. We will continue to work at the bargaining table, and will continue to reach out to British Columbians with our message of restoring funding and services to meet the needs of BC students and teachers.
