President's Message

Dear Colleagues,

I hope that you have had a successful start to the new school year.

The BC Social Studies Teacher’s Association began the new school year with its annual conference on Oct. 20.  This year’s conference Canada East to West was a collaborative effort with the Association for Canadian Studies.  Teachers new and old networked, attended informative and stimulating workshops and gathered numerous resources for their classrooms.  This year’s conference was a resounding success and we hope it helped set a positive tone for your school year.

The BC SSTA is starting off its year with many new faces to its Executive.  Your fellow colleagues have stepped forward to be advocates for social studies curriculum and for maintaining the integrity of our teaching practices in the classroom.  We welcome your suggestions and feedback as we encounter the challenges of incorporating new curriculum updates, revisions and development, updating our content knowledge as well as responding to new initiatives by the Ministry such as electronic exams.

I encourage you to visit our website regularly as new professional development opportunities, resources and links, Ministry updates and contest information are constantly being added.
