Inspiring Sustainability in BC Schools:


Teaching & Learning for Awareness, Action and Change
More than 200 BC K-12 Teachers and 40 students explored innovative and practical strategies and
community resources for effectively integrating sustainability concepts into place based teaching and learning at
school and in the community.

The BC
Environmental Educators Provincial Specialist Teachers Association (EEPSA) and Metro Vancouver would like to congratulate
and thank all of the attendees, presenters, staff, and the many volunteers who helped to make the 2007 Inspiring
Sustainability Conference a tremendous success. The combined efforts of all the partners resulted in a rich and
inspiring day of learning and networking for all.
The goals of the 2007 Inspiring Sustainability Conference:
- provide BC teachers with a quality professional development experience
- promote teaching and learning about sustainability in BC schools across the curriculum and in all subject areas
- explore the benefits and opportunities presented by the outdoor classroom
- provide practical, current, innovative and local sustainability teaching and learning tools and resources
- connect teachers with local community resources and programs
- promote meaningful experience and place based education
- inspire students and teachers to value and CARE about the place they live
Conference highlights include:
- A Keynote address by Mr. Robert Bateman featuring an introduction to the new Get to Know CD-Rom
- Participants received a copy of (and introduction to) the Environmental Learning and Experience: An interdisciplinary
guide for teachers (BC Ministry of Education, October 2007)
20 Workshops were promoted by:
