| TerraClues |
TerraClues is a website that utilizes Google maps for educational purposes. Teachers (or students) can place hidden clues on a map that can only found when student locate the site where the clues are located. To find the site, teachers can create a series of clues which can be hints, questions or actual pictures.
Parts of the website are open to the public while other parts can be made private, accessible to a particular class or classes of students.
There is also a very detailed tutorial that will walks users through the process of creating a new "hunt". In addition other teachers have make their hunts sharable so that they can be used by other teachers. During a recent visit to TerraClues, I noticed that the featured, "Hunt of the Week" was on the topic of. "The Age of Exploration". which would make a great activity for Grade 8 students.
The site is free to use but does require an account which is also free and easily obtained. If teachers want to create a private area that only their students can access then they will also have to create accounts (which are free as well) for their students. |
