The 2011 Begbie Contest

The seventeenth annual Begbie Canadian History Contest will take place
on April 13, 2010.

NEWS FLASH - In addition to the cash prizes, the top entrant in English and in French will travel to Ottawa to receive a medal from Canada’s National History Society. The 2009 Begbie Contest winners were the first to receive this award, which was presented by Governor-General Michaëlle Jean at Rideau Hall. A picture of the students and the Governor-General appears in the prizes section of the
Begbie Contest web site.

Honorable Recognition - Last summer  the Begbie Contest Society’s treasurer, Gordon Smith, stepped down. Gordon’s hard work and dedication over the past sixteen years contributed greatly to the success and longevity of the contest. Gordon has now passed on his books to the able hands of retired Vancouver Social Studies teacher Rick Cooper.

If you are interested in entering students in the 2010 contest you can find registration forms and information on the Begbie Contest web site at
