Each year the Standing Committee of the Legislature on Finance holds a consultation on what the public thinks should be in the budget. Sometimes in the past, education issues have had a significant place in the consultations and report.
Although participating may not directly influence the government’s budget, the hearings provide a public forum and a chance to raise the issues of importance to teachers and to public education.
The committee travels the province to hold hearings that are already under way. You can find the schedule on the web at http://www.leg.bc.ca/budgetconsultations/.
You can participate in three ways:
Get a spot on the agenda and talk to the committee.
Write a submission indicating what you think should be in the provincial budget.
Use the form on the Legislature website to provide input electronically.
BCTF President Irene Lanzinger will be presenting on behalf of the BCTF, at a committee hearing in Vancouver, at 11:50 a.m. on Monday, September 29. The brief that will be presented will be widely circulated.
