This unit explores the life of Serafim “Joe” Fortes, a Black Pioneer who lived in Vancouver between 1885 and 1886 from the age of 20. Serafim was reported as a well-liked person in his community, but given the time period in which he lived, how much of what was reported about Serafim was his authentic lived experience.
