About This Resource

Lesson activities to accompany the vignette "Mattie Gunterman" from the acclaimed Knowledge Network series; Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia produced by Landrock Entertainment. The vignette explores the new technology of photography and its application in the hands of pioneer Mattie Gunterman in late 19th-early 20th century British Columbia. Examine the images of everyday life as captured by the lens of the this Victoria era pioneer. The traditional roles of women in the Victorian era are challenged by this unique individual. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history.
