The British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) has announced that provincial collective bargaining will resume next week following a meaningful commitment from the provincial government that honours our members’ priorities.
On January 13, the BCTF declared an impasse in negotiations over classroom conditions. In response, teachers across the province mobilized, sending thousands of messages to government officials and demonstrating strong public solidarity.
As a result of this advocacy, BCTF leadership engaged in a series of discussions with senior government representatives. The government came forward with a commitment to address key priorities, including teacher workload and improved learning conditions for students.
Following these discussions, the BCTF Executive Committee voted to return to the bargaining table. Negotiations are expected to resume as early as next week.
“The progress made shows that collective action and advocacy work,” said BCTF President Carole Gordon. “While there is still work to be done at the table, there is now a real opportunity to reach an agreement that supports teachers and students.”
Further updates will be provided as negotiations continue.
