In accordance with Standing Rule of Order 11.C.1, the Representative Assembly (RA) is seeking voting members interested in serving in the role of RA chairpersons. Qualified members can submit a CV form through the BCTF website for elections that will take place at the Spring RA which will be held May 29 and 30, 2026.
Role
The role of the RA chairpersons is to chair the meeting in alignment and accordance with the Standing Rules of Order of the RA. Please see Part 5 of the Members’ Guide, pp. 170–187, for the Simplified Rules of Order and the RA Standing Rules of Order, which outline the many items the chairpersons are responsible for within the meeting.
The RA is held three times a year in the fall, winter, and spring. Chairpersons are expected to be available for all three meetings and to participate in preparatory meetings in advance of each RA. Generally, the meeting is co-chaired, and chairpersons will rotate throughout the business of the meeting to ensure that chairpersons have adequate rest and breaks, given the focus required in this role. When not directly chairing the meeting, the other chairpersons provide support to the RA Agenda Committee and local representatives by answering questions, providing procedural advice, and providing assistance in navigating the business of the meeting.
Each chairperson must be a voting member of the Federation and should have extensive experience chairing large meetings using Roberts’ Rules of Order, the BCTF Standing Rules of Order, or a similar structure. Should an elected member be a local president or local representative, the local in question may send an alternate at BCTF expense, as per Procedure 25.D.56.
For more details, see 11.C.1 in the Standing Rules of Order which can be found in the Members’ Guide (pp. 186–187).
