BCTF Learning Resource Representative
Two-year term to June 30, 2028
The BCTF is seeking a learning resource representative for the Focused Education’s Learning Resource Advisory Committee for a two-year term. The committee, which is mainly comprised of district staff, senior administration, and Ministry of Education and Child Care staff, provides guidance around policies, procedures, and projects to Focused Education’s Education Services team. Specifically, the committee identifies opportunities for evaluation and licensing of learning resources and professional learning offerings. The learning resource representative will attend approximately four to five meetings per year (mostly 90-minute virtual meetings during workday hours, and one full-day spring meeting at Focused Education Resources in Vancouver) and will provide summative reports to the BCTF. Travel and accommodation expenses are covered by Focused Education, and the BCTF will provide the required Leaves of Absence.
Selection criteria:
- significant teacher-librarian, technology, and learning resource experience
- learning resources policy knowledge (e.g., protection of privacy, copyright)
- highly knowledgeable about, and able to communicate, the views of the BCTF (previous BCTF committee experience)
- sensitivity to multiple subject areas, e.g., music, social studies, science, etc., and the interests of other PSAs
- perceptive about political considerations and outside representation concerns
- no conflicts of interest with any resource publishers––cannot be under contract to Focused Education Resources (e.g., a Focused Education Resources reviewer)
- member of BCTF and BCTLA but ideally not a member of the current BCTLA Executive due to the time commitment
- knowledgeable about the Focused Education Resources organization (services and supports to members, including resource evaluation and selection, privacy considerations, and professional learning opportunities)
- knowledgeable about processes and policies related to the selection of digital and print resources at a system or district-wide level
- experience using databases at both the school and district level
- commitment to diversity, inclusion, and sensitivity around Indigenous resource concerns.
