About This Resource

Students will investigate Hogan’s Alley, a vibrant multi-ethnic but primarily Black neighbourhood in Vancouver’s Strathcona district that thrived from the early 1900s until 1970. The lesson explores how systemic "urban renewal" policies led to the community's displacement to make way for the Georgia and Dunsmuir Viaducts, and how the community is currently working toward cultural redress.
