About This Resource

The Métis have often been called The Forgotten People because they have been marginalized in history through exclusion from the governmental financial structures that feature in First Nations communities, and from broad treaty-land claims processes. Often there is a lot of confusion about who the Métis were and are. This introduction will give students and teachers a sense of Métis history and culture from the historic fur trading days to contemporary times as well as raise broader questions about nationhood and personal identity.
