Calling all teachers, families, and fans of public education! Schools are reopening after a well-deserved holiday and we are coming back strong in our fight for better classroom conditions. On Monday, January 5, wear red to show your support for a fully funded BC education system, as part of a province-wide movement.
Bargaining is entering a critical phase. Teachers across BC have been clear about what students need: more time, more support, and the resources required to meet the realities of today’s classrooms. But the government still hasn’t delivered.
Now is the time to put pressure on the government to put meaningful funding on the table for a fair deal. Wearing red shares a clear message: better learning conditions for kids can’t wait.

FAQ:
What is #RedforBCED? Why do I keep seeing photos of teachers in red t-shirts?
Wearing red is a simple but powerful way to show solidarity with fellow teachers and with students across the province—and to remind government that better school conditions can’t wait. It shows that teachers are united, engaged, and paying attention.
How can I participate?
Monday, January 5, is a province-wide #RedforBCED day. Wear red. Take photos. Share on social media with #RedforBCED. Tag @bctf and @bcteachersfederation.
Local unions are also encouraged to organize walk-ins and additional #RedforBCED days. There is no set date for when these happen—please contact your local union to ask how to get involved.
How else can I help?
The BCTF has launched a letter-writing campaign to the Premier and Minister of Finance: act.bctf.ca/ittakesateacher. Thousands have already sent letters—we need everyone. One letter takes minutes, but thousands together send a powerful message: teachers’ working conditions and students’ learning conditions matter.
Engage your community. Talk to colleagues and parents about why it’s so important to invest in a better learning environment for kids.
Where can I get a red t-shirt?
Contact your local. However, any red shirt will do!
