Every February, Black History Month honours the rich historical, cultural, and social contributions that Black Canadians have made—and continue to make—across Canada.
Educators play an essential role in bringing this history into the classroom during February and beyond. Black History Month offers an important opportunity to deepen students’ understanding of Black history as an integral part of the Canadian story.
Recently, teachers from across the province met to collaborate on the Black History Teacher Resource Project, reviewing existing materials and creating new, culturally responsive, historically accurate resources. These resources are now available on TeachBC, expanding the collection of classroom‑ready lessons for BC educators.
