BC teachers will hold a ratification vote March 2 to 4 on a new tentative agreement reached between the BC Teachers’ Federation and the BC Public School Employers’ Association.
The agreement covers a four-year contract for 52,000 teachers and other educators like school psychologists who work across the province in the K–12 public education system.
It follows nearly one year of negotiations in which teachers raised key priorities of improving classroom conditions, mental health support for kids, and fair wages to recruit and retain teachers.
“This tentative agreement exists because teachers spoke up for their students—through walk-ins, rallies, and direct advocacy. When talks stalled, it was the collective voice of members and supporters of public education that helped break the impasse,” BCTF President Carole Gordon said.
“Our members now get to decide what comes next, and we are focused on ensuring they have all the information needed to make an informed decision.”
Members can access the Bargaining Updates and Information webpage, which has recently been updated to include:
- the full Memorandum of Agreement between the BCTF and the employer.
- a summary of the terms of settlement.
- the PowerPoint from the town hall recording.
Until the ratification process is complete, the current contract remains in effect. If adopted, the new contract is retroactive to July 2025.
The BCTF thanks its members for their engagement and solidarity throughout the bargaining process and looks forward to continuing to advocate for strong public schools and a sustainable profession for educators.
