The British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF), located on the unceded ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Səlil̓w̓ətaɬ/Selilwitulh, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nations since 1917, is a union of professionals representing over 52,000 kindergarten to grade 12 public school teachers throughout the province of BC.

The BCTF office building is situated in close proximity to the Canada Line and other major transit routes in a central Vancouver location. This is an in-person position based out of 550 West 6th Avenue, in Vancouver.
Function and Purpose
Reporting to the Treasurer and CFO, this pivotal role is responsible for leading the Federation’s annual budget process, conducting financial analysis and forecasting, and administering grant programs for locals. The Senior Financial Analyst provides strategic financial insights and guidance to senior leadership, ensuring sound fiscal management and alignment with organizational priorities.
Principal duties and responsibilities
- leading the preparation, coordination, and monitoring of the Federation’s annual budget
- analyzing financial data, trends, and variances to support evidence-based decision-making
- developing financial forecasts, models, and scenario analyses to guide strategic planning
- providing financial insights and reports to the Treasurer, CFO, Executive Committee, and other stakeholders
- preparing and presenting detailed financial reports and recommendations to governance bodies and committees
- co-ordinating with directors and program leads to ensure accurate budget submissions and ongoing monitoring
- maintaining and improving systems and processes for budget tracking and financial reporting
- administering the grants to locals program, ensuring compliance and equitable fund distribution
- providing financial guidance and training to staff and leadership on budgeting processes
- collaborating with the Accounting Department to align budgeting with financial reporting standards
- managing financial research, policy impact assessments, and cost estimates for new initiatives
- advising on and presenting financial findings at governance meetings, including the Representative Assembly and AGM.
Required experience
- advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including developing and presenting financial models and analysis
- strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE or IFRS) and regulatory compliance
- experience implementing and optimizing Windows-based ERP accounting systems and reporting tools
- proven ability to conduct data analysis, financial forecasting, and scenario modeling
- experience preparing and presenting complex financial information to senior leadership or governance bodies
- previous experience in a not-for-profit or unionized environment is an asset.
Required education/training
- University degree
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
